About LIMA PULSE

What this is

LIMA PULSE is the emergency care readiness programme of Lima Health Centre, Sultanate of Oman. It exists because a remote primary health centre cannot call a cardiac arrest team. Whoever is on shift is the entire chain of survival until a transfer arrives.

It is built as a permanent library and a permanent record rather than a course that happens once. Five foundation days establish the core skills; everything taught afterwards is added to the same library, under the same programme, indefinitely.

What it is trying to achieve

• Every member of staff able to act correctly in the first four minutes, without waiting for instruction.
• Teaching material permanently available on any staff phone, revisable in five minutes at the start of a shift.
• A complete, dated, evidenced record of every training activity the centre performs.
• Measured improvement — not an assumption of it. Every day is assessed before and after, and every drill is audited.
• A structure another health centre could adopt by changing a handful of details.

How each day is run

Cold pre-assessment · lecture · skills stations · case simulations · performance audit · post-assessment. Followed by unannounced drills and re-audit, so readiness is measured after the week rather than assumed from it.

Evidence base

Teaching content follows the American Heart Association CPR & ECC Guidelines and, for recognition and escalation, the NEWS2 early-warning system. Where this material and a published guideline disagree, the guideline is correct and this material is corrected.

Material is reviewed at least annually and whenever the underlying guidelines are revised.

Authorship

Developed, written and organised by Dr Karim Ghonim, Lima Health Centre — responsible for emergency team development and continuous learning. The visual identity, teaching material, assessments, audit instruments and this platform were designed as a single system for this centre.
